Frequently Asked Questions
How long can I expect my finished kit to last?
The kits are made with high quality materials and have a design born of over 10 years of hands on making experience.
This ensures they are beautiful and very long lasting objects that will be a key part of the home for years to come.
We're really proud to produce something that will last a lifetime!
Is it a toy?
Whilst the kits are meant to be a LOT of fun to make, we consider them to be much more than just a toy!
These are educational craft kits, that aren't just completed and disregarded, but that are completed and then cherished, and used to aid further making, hopefully for a very long time!
(Full disclosure: I'm a professional woodworker and I have started taking my Herra Toolbox to work with me as it's become my favourite toolbox for easy access to the small hand tools that I use the most)
I'm worried about my kids using tools, are they going to be safe?
Whilst we can't guarantee that you or your kids won't get the odd cut, scratch or splinter when woodworking, we can say that the risk of this, when following the instructions and all safety precautions carefully, is relatively low.
If you intend to complete one of the kits with a child or teenager under the age of 16 then they must be supervised at ALL times and all safety precautions must be followed.
If in any doubt with any processes of techniques, feel free to get in touch with us for info. There are also lots of videos online if you need some extra guidance on how to use certain tools whilst completing the kits!
What ages are the kits suitable for?
Our kits are designed for young and old makers alike!
It is up to parents to decide when they feel that they're kids are ready, but obviously when making with younger children, they need to be taught how to use any tools safely and supervised at all times!
There is however no upper age limit! These kits can be as good of a first step for adults looking to get into woodworking or textiles as they are for kids!
Can I do the kits at home?
Absolutely, yes!
All you need is a solid work surface to work from, whether thats a workbench in the shed or the kitchen table!
If being completed inside on a piece of furniture (like a kitchen table) that you don't want to damage, we recommend laying something over the top of it first to protect it, as well as putting something down to stop the floor getting too dusty!
